Why am I such a small bird?
A young cardinal, fighting old crows.
My little heart beating too fast,
an aching cause too much pain.
As cold as my eyes, swift as the wind,
I have learn to how make and mend.
I can't win every war I face.
If I continue to always fight,
I'll end with a twisted tortured fate.
Old Vulture, Old Vulture,
what dare do I do? I've reached for the sky,
but gravity fought back and got the best of me.
I'm the first to change in Autumn;
the leaf to fall first before everyone.
Young cardinal Redd,
you've realized where you're been heading:
caught on a wind blowing towards the sun.
You're pride, the wax wings you fly with,
once they melt, your fall can't be undone.
Ask yourself what you're searching for,
and the answer will find you.
You can't change the leaves mid-season,
they will when the time comes.
Stop the struggle with the present,
and prepare for the future.
The sky has it's limits, don't reach them.
